When sickness assails our mortal bodies, it could be a sickness unto death. Yet God is faithful to give His people the abiding truth of the matter: God is in control. Worship the Lord in the midst of your storm! Worship the Lord in the swirling tempest of life’s darkest hours. In all things, give thanks!
Let us be thankful for God’s gift of Gospel repentance. He alone has opened our eyes to our darkness, sin and shame. He alone has changed our minds concerning Christ, causing each of us to look to Christ alone for all righteousness. It is the Lord alone that has, in the words of Paul, “given us understanding.” And it is through eyes made new by Gospel repentance that we endeavor to be kind and gentle toward one another as we, ever sorrowful for our sin, trust Christ alone to go our way until the brightness and glory of His coming.
Redeemed, called personally, eternally kept by the power of God: We are God’s purchased possession, loved of the Lord so much that He sent Christ to fulfill all righteousness for us by His death on the cross. We are exhorted to testify to the truth of the Gospel of God’s free and Sovereign Grace. We have a commission to carry forth as Christians, to share Christ’s finished work in the proclamation of the Gospel. Far and wide, we must spread the Gospel. Let it be our labor of love!
Today, do you trust in the things of the world? Or has the Spirit of God opened your eyes to the truth of Scripture? Has He caused you to believe that Christ alone is the sure and steadfast foundation of the soul?
Christ, the stone rejected by so many, is to those whom the Lord our God shall call, the precious corner stone forevermore. Amen
Will God comfort His people? Can believers have assurance of faith? Will God deal with the wicked? These are the major questions addressed by this portion of Isaiah’s prophecy. Isaiah assures the people of God that “In that day” God’s purpose and will shall unfold in full and complete perfection. In That Day, writes Isaiah, God provides comfort for His people. In That day, God shall assure His People. And in that day, God shall judge the wicked.
Dead religion will not save you! Do you think that mere ritualistic actions are sufficient to propitiate the wrath of God concerning you? Isaiah wrote to the children of Israel first to judge their lives by God’s righteous standard. Then, as if to rescue them from the pit of total despair, Isaiah lovingly writes about a righteousness that is wrought by God alone, a righteousness that makes our scarlet sins white as snow. The question is this: are you willing? If so, it is the Lord of Hosts who has visited with you in the working of the Holy Spirit, regenerating you unto life so that you, by His power, can rest in the perfection of another, Jesus Christ, apart from the dead rituals and sin-cursed works of sinful hands. Truly, this is the work of God, ‘to believe on the One whom He has sent!’ Only he can MAKE us willing!
John 16:13-15 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is…
